DREAM OF JESSE

I’m a Latine filmmaker, screenwriter, and multi-media artist from Los Angeles, California (Glassell Park);  a first-generation graduate from Northwestern University; and a first-year graduate student at California Institute of the Arts. Learned in programs like RunwayAI, Unreal Engine 5, Unity, After Effects, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, DaVinci Resolve, and Blender; I am a futurist. I imagine a media boundless by ideals yet embedded in a human-made reality, created by people like me. My storytelling and production skills span from music videos  and short narrative films to experimental documentaries which have been selected in festivals from the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) to the Defy Film Festival.

Transformó

  • “A farm tenant recieves an unexpected visitor that recalls the past while inspiring a future.” This particular short film covers the territory of change without revealing the product of any true transformation for the protagonist, emphasizing the opportunity and chance rather than any pressure to commit or initiate. Thematically, it spans a range of subjects from masculinity and gender to the attachments of identity, especially ideologically.
  • One of the central questions when drafting the script surrounded the ship of theseus and if a person can truly change. If a person is composed of the same histories and experiences throughout their lives, does that constitute the same person ultimately regardless of where they might be at the moment? For some who fear change but seek it, it may seem more likely that a person does not change, but make changes. And for those who accept this “new person,” how does that change the definition of “the person”? Transformó, at heart, discusses these questions through subtly and camp dialogue, prioritizing affect in the response to this question without forfeiting the essence of the dialogue.
